Valsang’s abstract paintings on large canvases show a complex interaction between colour, form and composition. The chronology of her working process remains visible through the formations of overlapping and translucent layers of paint. Valsang’s technique of painting wet on wet make colours mix and new shapes appear while others fade away. The dynamic and light appearance of Tatjana Valsang’s paintings provides a sense of weightlessness induced by her spatial richness. Between the first easily and airy drafted composition and the finished painting there’s an equally intensive and exquisite work with brush and canvas.

Tatjana Valsang (born 1963 in St. Tönis) lives and works in Wuppertal, Germany. For a long time, after finishing her studies at Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, she worked in private, where she through assiduous concentration on partial aspects of her work collected ideas and experience through experimentation. Over time she has built up an extensive and astonishingly mature painting oeuvre. Tatjana Valsang uses colour and canvas in order to speak her own language.
